Tell us a bit about yourself and your academic journey.
I started undergrad at UC Berkeley studying Molecular and Cell Biology because I was really curious about how the human body works. But over time, I realized that a lot of the answers in science are hidden in data, and having the skills to work with data opens up a lot of possibilities. That’s when I decided to double major in Data Science. During my senior year, I came across the MSSE program and felt like it was the perfect extension of what I had already been studying. It brought both of my interests, science and software, into one place, so I applied and joined the program right after graduation.
Why did you choose MSSE?
It’s a one-of-a-kind program that blends science and engineering, which really matched my background. I liked that it didn’t box me into one path—it gave me the flexibility to explore different fields. I also appreciated how it encouraged leadership and entrepreneurship, which made it feel more forward-thinking and aligned with the kind of impact I want to make.
Tell us about your role at Creao AI.
I work as a Solution Engineer at Creao AI, helping users build solutions using our AI platform. The MSSE program taught me how to approach complex problems and break them down into something I can build around, which is something I do a lot in my current role. Whether it’s translating user needs into workflows or thinking through the best tools to use, the foundation I built in MSSE definitely helps.
What lessons from MSSE have been most valuable in your work with startups and innovation programs?
Flexibility has been a big one. MSSE taught me how to take concepts from one area—like biology or machine learning—and apply them in a different context. That mindset has helped me a lot when working in early-stage environments where you have to wear many hats and solve problems creatively. The program also introduced me to entrepreneurship, which gave me the confidence to try new things and contribute ideas, even in uncertain or fast-changing situations.
What advice would you give yourself before you started the MSSE program?
Stay open to new opportunities and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The program moves quickly and covers a lot, so speaking up and being curious makes a big difference. Also, trust that you belong in the room—even if you’re still figuring things out.
